Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Gold Card Electrical Course Package.

The JIB/ECS Gold Card is the UK industry standard proving you are a fully qualified Installation Electrician (graded as such by the Joint Industry Board). It is required for most construction sites, commercial contracts, and main-contractor pre-qualification. To qualify you need Level 3 2365 (or equivalent), 18th Edition, City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing, AM2 (or AM2E/AM2S), plus NVQ Level 3 portfolio evidence — every step is included in this Gold Card Package.

You receive City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma 2365, City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma 2365, 18th Edition (BS 7671:2018+A4:2026), City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing, and full NVQ Level 3 (2346) portfolio support with an assigned assessor. Full-time enrolment also includes the EAL Approved Basic Electrical Skills course (worth £899) at no extra cost.

The classroom phase is 15 weeks full-time or 30 weeks part-time at our Cheshunt centre. After classroom training you complete the NVQ Level 3 portfolio in your workplace — most learners finish portfolio evidence in 9 to 12 months alongside paid electrical work, then sit AM2/AM2S to apply for the Gold Card.

No. The Gold Card Package is built for complete beginners and career-changers. You need to be 16+ and committed to learning — there are no formal academic prerequisites. We start from foundational electrical theory and build up to advanced installation, fault diagnosis, and inspection & testing.

JIB-rated Gold Card Installation Electricians in the UK typically earn £35,000–£48,000 per year as employees, with self-employed contractors often earning £55,000–£80,000+ depending on region and specialisms (London and South East premium). Gold Card status is also a hard requirement for many higher-paying commercial, industrial, and Tier 1 contractor roles.

NVQ Level 3 (2346) is a work-based assessment — you build a portfolio of on-site electrical work over real installations, signed off by a qualified assessor. We provide assessor visits, portfolio guidance, and remote support. You need access to live electrical installation work — either through employment, self-employed contracting, or an electrical mate/apprentice arrangement.

AM2 (now AM2S for installation electricians) is the end-point practical assessment of competence, sat at an approved AM2 centre after the NVQ portfolio is complete. It is the final gate before applying for the Gold Card. The AM2S assessment fee is paid directly to the AM2 centre and is not included in the £8,849 package — typical AM2S costs are £700–£900.

Yes. We offer 0% interest payment plans with a £1,000 deposit, splitting the remaining £7,849 across the classroom period. We also offer employer-sponsored bulk bookings and discounts — contact us for tailored quotes.

Level 3 2365 on its own is a classroom qualification — it does not on its own lead to the Gold Card. The Gold Card Package adds Level 2 (the foundation), 18th Edition, 2391 Inspection & Testing, and crucially the NVQ Level 3 portfolio assessment that proves on-site competence. The Gold Card requires all of these — buying them bundled saves money versus stacking individually.

All classroom training is delivered at our Cheshunt centre in Hertfordshire (15 minutes from M25 J25, 30 minutes from central London by train via Liverpool Street). Free on-site parking is available. Maximum 16 students per class. NVQ portfolio assessor visits happen at your workplace.
