ECS Gold Card 2025: Updated Requirements and Routes
The ECS Gold Card remains the industry benchmark for qualified electricians. Understanding the current requirements and available routes ensures you choose the most efficient pathway to certification.
Current Requirements
Gold Card eligibility requires Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas, NVQ Level 3, current 18th Edition certification with Amendment 3, and a pass in the AM2 practical assessment.
Three Routes
Beginner Route
The Gold Card Package covers everything in 15-17 weeks full-time, followed by NVQ assessment on site.
Fast Track Route
For those with 1-4 years of experience, day-release training over 24 weeks allows continued employment during qualification.
Experienced Worker Route
Electricians with 5+ years can pursue accelerated NVQ assessment, typically completing in 3-6 months.
AM2 Assessment
The AM2 is the final practical exam, testing installation skills, fault-finding ability, and safe working practices under timed conditions. Both AM2 and AM2E variants lead to the same Gold Card.
